Last month I wrote about Kaia going through a seperation anxiety stage. She only wanted mommy and I was not used to that. Luckily, that only lasted about 2 weeks.
Our newest challenge includes going to bed!!! We have been so lucky to this point with Kaia being such a good sleeper and going down so easily...well not anymore (and believe me, we are hoping this doesn't last long either). She is still sleeping well...once she is down. She enjoys being around others so much that about 50% of the time it is a battle to get her to go to sleep. We have to go through the crying fit for a while (which is awful and I feel so mean), but within 30 minutes or so she is sound asleep.
The biggest change this month has been the walking. Some days she walks all over and is very daring and other days, she will take 4-5 steps and then sit down. I feel like she is getting more balanced and comfortable everyday. She falls alot and is learning which ones hurt, which ones are just scarry, and which ones are kind of funny.
We will be traveling within the next two weeks so maybe she will wait to be walking at "full-force" until we get back home (fingers crossed).
Walking is definitely a calorie-drainer for Kaia. We can tell because her appetite has definitely increased. She still enjoys all the things she used to but now she really likes asparagus (who knew??).
Some new things Kaia has begun doing are:
- eskimo kisses with mom - it is so cute and she thinks it is sooo funny. She giggles and giggles. On the negative side, this is a tactic she uses to keep herself awake when mommy is trying to put her to sleep. She brings her nose to mine and wiggles her little head and it is almost impossible not to love her back.
- Kaia has figured out that a sheep says "baaahhhhh" - that is old news but now she thinks that every animal says "baaahhhhh" just in different tones. Like when she sees a kitty, she says "baaahh" in a high pitched, very soft voice. When she sees a tiger she says, "BAAAHHHHH" really loud and forceful. This, of course makes everyone around us laugh at her, which makes her want to do it more and more!!!
- Kaia has also finished learning all the hand signs to patty-cake. She claps, rolls-em, and NOW throws them in the pan (by throwing her hands up over her head)!!!
- If I say, come dance with me Kaia. She walks or crawls over to me, stands up, takes my hands and begins bouncing up and down. She was doing this anytime music came on and now she is doing it whenever we ask her to. It is so adorable.
- Kaia is pointing to everything. She points to Mema, Papi, Sadie, Mommy, Kristi, and MAcey when asked, "Where is ________"? She points at pictures on the wall (which is normally accompanied with a "baaahhhh"), she points at babies all the time and then signs baby...she also does this when she looks in the mirror.
- Kaia's dexterity has just shocked me so much this month. We have had several shape sorter toys for a while that she was not the least bit interested in, but this past month she is putting squares in the square slot, circles in the circle slot, etc. She also is able to place these small little rubber balls into their container which is also very small. It has really impressed me (not that that surprises anyone :))
One more new thing....Kaia's hair is growing (slowly but surely), and right now she has the cutest, most delicate curl (just one) in the back of her hair. I love it!! I twirl it around my finger all the time and she laughs. Here it is! So precious!
